In this project, I wanted to create a 3D vinyl version of my favourite poster. I focussed mainly on lighting and texturing with Arnold renderer, but also tried out some simulations for the leaves, flag and skirt. I made the textures for the Totoro body and bus stop sign from scratch in Photoshop.
For the puddles, I made a roughness matte for the floor surface. I used Cinema 4D's hair material to make the tree branches and leaves.
I assembled the project in After Effects, adding the sound effects, rain, the leaves out of focus in the foreground and finally Totora's blinks. I ran passes to isolate different elements of the scene eg. the background so that I could adjust them later and avoid re-rendering the entire scene.
